Enhancing this charming hotel with bespoke joinery
The Pig at Combe in Devon was reimagined by Home Grown Hotels who operate a collection of award-winning luxury boutique hotels in the South of England, focusing on authentic and informal food, service and design. Keeping as many original features as possible, inside and outside THE PIGs, the aim is to restore and give higgeldy-piggeldy things a new lease of life.
Many of the building’s features and original materials were retained and replicated to ensure the new Pig Hotel did not lose its charm during the renovation process.
Due to the nature of the listed buildings and their surroundings, close collaboration with the Architects, Client, local Planning Offices, Conservation Officer and Natural England was required to ensure all works were undertaken in-line with the stringent rules surrounding working on a protected structure such as this.
Works included a complete refit of the venue, with the installation of new floors, new ceilings, modern water and heating systems and electrical system. Almost all the property’s timber floors had to be replaced and a new kitchen installed.
The Tekne team manufactured all the bespoke joinery, fixtures and furniture for the bedrooms and public areas including the bars, wardrobes and wall panelling. The same goes for the outbuildings, stables, barns and sheds too. Each space is important and each one is renovated with respect of its authentic detailing and original materials.
